NVQs

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are qualifications delivered in the workplace or settings that replicate the working environment.

NVQs are outcome-based with no fixed learning programme, permitting flexibility of delivery to meet the individual candidate’s needs.

NVQs are based on national occupational standards (NOS). These standards define the competencies, knowledge and understanding needed in a given occupation, and identify outcomes that can be assessed.

NOS are set and designed by the relevant sector body – either a Sector Skills Council or a standards setting body recognised by the government. NOS:

  • cover almost every occupation
  • are presented as units
  • form the basis of all National Vocational Qualifications.

There are NVQs at different levels, ranging from 1 to 5, depending on the sector. This allows learners to study at a level that’s appropriate to their job role and level of experience, and progress accordingly.

Our offering includes National Vocational Qualifications at levels two, three and four in Health & Social Care and Leadership and Management in Care Services, Team Leading and Management levels two to four.

How are NVQs assessed?

learningAssessment of NVQs is evidence-based, although other methods of assessment are available for different components, where appropriate and designed to guarantee consistency, validity, reliability, sufficiency, currency and authenticity of evidence at a national level.

Our quality assurance process is conducted by trained, qualified and occupationally competent assessors and internal verifiers (IV).  We are also fortunate to be able to call upon the services of our external verifiers, appointed by our awarding organisation, to provide support, advice and guidance as an Edexcel-approved centre.
